Parents… ALWAYS review your child’s curriculum standards. Be proactive! Parents of gifted students have it a bit easier, since you can mandate subjects that are taught when developing IEP for the gifted student. However, other parents aren’t so lucky…

In perhaps the most glaring example to date of our government’s descent into socialist madness, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is attempting to remove all American history prior to 1877 from its textbooks, replacing it with a “global studies” curriculum.

No history before 1877?! What is going on in our schools today? This is another reason why the chances for success in public schools are dwindling…

New York City Overhauling Gifted Programs

Following Florida’s lead, New York City has proposed plans to change eligibility guidelines for Gifted programs in the city’s schools. Right now, standards vary among schools. But the chancellor of schools, Joel Klein, has proposed a standard to be by all schools in evaluating Gifted students. All students who qualify would be guaranteed a spot in their school’s Gifted program. However, the qualifications would be substantially higher. The proposal would only admit those students who scored in the 95th percentile or higher on two national tests into Gifted programs.
